First Washington State Capitol

First state Capitol, in use fifteen years, was a two-story frame structure. The House of Representatives met downstairs, the Senate upstairs. This building, previously used as the territorial Capitol, was the scene of the constitutional convention when Washington became the forty-second state. (Seattle Times Archives, 1939)
